Meet our Chief Financial Officer
Lucas Miller (he/him)
Lucas, a.k.a. the “singing zoologist,” has been putting life in the life sciences for 25 years through his multimedia programs for schools, libraries, and performing arts centers. With songs and stories about monarch butterflies, wetlands, ocelots, and more, his creativity has been embraced by countless families all over planet earth.
The seeds of his unique calling were apparent from his childhood in Missouri and Kentucky. He adored animals, especially frogs and turtles, and was singing along with his guitar-strumming father as far back as he can remember.
In college, he studied zoology by day and led a raucous alt-rock band by night. After graduation, he planned to be a sea turtle scientist (and fell in love with his wife, Ariel, among nesting sea turtles in Costa Rica), but everything changed when he took a job as an environmental educator and “shantyman” aboard an 80-foot eco-schooner on Long Island Sound. Elementary kids proved to be the perfect audience for his zany, enthusiastic stage performances, and he knew he had found his calling.
Lucas has been involved with Appamada School since its opening day. He teaches science, manages the finances, and shares his love of all things wild with our students.
