Meet our Middle School Math and Elementary Science Teacher
Kailah Santana (she/her)
Kailah was born in Harlingen, TX and raised in the Queen City of the Rio Grande Valley, also known as Mercedes, TX. She relocated to San Marcos, TX to pursue her Bachelor of Science in psychology with a minor in biology. Doing this combined her two passions: mindfulness and the sciences. After receiving her psychology degree from Texas State University, she did a bit of soul-searching. Coming from a family of four teachers and a mother working as a speech-language pathologist at a school, she understood just how important teaching is and how big of an impact the right school can have on a student. She decided that teaching was her true calling.
Kailah’s goal as an educator is to promote compassion, mutual respect, and an individualized approach in the classroom. She believes that every student’s learning style and needs are unique and should be respected as such. As a teacher, she aims to be interactive, hands-on, and engaging. Through the use of group work, manipulatives, and visuals, each student will be able to engage in a cooperative and collaborative learning environment. Another important aspect of Kailah’s teaching is her focus on diversity and inclusion. Kailah’s goal is to provide the students with a safe space to learn and be themselves. More than anything, Kailah hopes to empower students to discover their voice and develop the confidence to express themselves authentically.
Kailah exudes a nurturing and compassionate energy, known for her kindness and generosity. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys playing video games—Uncharted and The Last of Us being two of her favorites—and indulging in her love for music through her cassette tape collection. A passionate movie enthusiast, Kailah owes her love for films to her parents, who made family movie nights a cherished tradition. She and her fiancé, Melissa, are also animal lovers, enjoying the playful chaos brought by their two dogs, Puddles and Luna, and their cat, Corn.
