Meet our Life Skills & Physical Education Teacher

JT Haumer (he/him)

JT was born in Monterey, California, and grew up moving around the country in a military family. He attended high school in Montville, Connecticut, where he was involved in sports and served as President of the local junior Lions Club. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, where he studied business and received a bachelor of science degree in business management. After holding several sales and customer service jobs, JT left the business world to pursue his passion for woodworking. He relocated to central Texas, where he completed the United Brotherhood of Carpenters’ journeyman apprenticeship program. As a commercial finish carpenter, he contributed to countless building projects in Austin and San Antonio. He now lives in Canyon Lake, where he operates a home renovation business.

During the summer of 2020, JT managed the remodel of Appamada’s arthouse in preparation for the inaugural school year of our elementary program. He has since returned during school year breaks to complete other renovation projects around campus. While working at Appamada School, JT fell in love with the atmosphere and culture of our school. After he was invited to participate as a guest speaker in one of our elective classes, JT became determined to become a permanent member of the Appamada team!

When JT is not working, he can be found kayaking, fishing, and relaxing on Canyon Lake with his wife Kelly and their two dogs, Hildi and Heidi.
