Diane Appleby (she/her)
Diane holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Education in Special Education from the College of Charleston in South Carolina. She is certified by the Orton-Gillingham Academy in their specialized approach for individualized instruction for students with dyslexia and has implemented these methods in a school dedicated to serving this population. Over the years, Diane has skillfully utilized these strategies to enhance reading and writing instruction for a diverse range of students.
Her career encompasses early childhood, elementary, and middle school education, with experience in alternative, private, and public schools across South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. Diane is dedicated to fostering strong student-teacher relationships and guiding each child through their unique educational journey. She emphasizes the importance of customizing educational experiences to meet each student's individual developmental stage, abilities, and strengths, and advocates for teaching the whole child through self-discovery and exploration within a supportive and secure environment.
Diane's teaching approach cultivates a classroom atmosphere where students feel empowered to take risks and learn from their mistakes. She believes that when students feel valued, their performance improves. By prioritizing the development of strong, respectful relationships, Diane fosters a positive and effective learning environment.
Originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, where most of her family resides, Diane relocated from Nashville to the Austin area in 2018. She is a mother of three and has a beloved dog named Bruno.
Following her college graduation, Diane embarked on a six-week journey backpacking and traveling by train throughout Europe. She has continued her travels with her children, who have developed a particular enthusiasm for exploring museums and uncovering unique gems in various cities. Among their favorite historical sites are those in Rome, Florence, and Pompeii.
Diane and her daughter share a passion for Broadway shows, frequently attending performances in both New York City and Austin. Additionally, Diane is an avid reader, enjoys watching documentaries, and listens to true crime podcasts.
